NOTA: La versión anterior de la película protectora de pintura para uso automotriz aprobada por el fabricante de equipos originales tenía la característica distintiva de tener logotipos 3M rojos en su revestimiento. Los profesionales la usaron ampliamente durante varios años. Sin embargo, ahora se considera una tecnología obsoleta y ya no se fabrica.

Esta película protectora de superficies en particular era conocida por sus logotipos rojos 3M en el revestimiento y fue en gran medida responsable de que la película 3M ganara una reputación negativa en los años 1990 y 2000 por su tendencia a presentar cáscara de naranja y amarilleo.

Esta película fue diseñada para ser más económica al excluir los inhibidores de rayos UV que se incluían en la Serie 848, que era un producto aprobado por el fabricante de equipos originales que tenía una apariencia similar.
